Focus of Development:

To comprehensively deepen the mutually beneficial cooperation with cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), participate fully in the development of the GBA, and step up the development of itself into the GBA’s hub gateway city connecting the Greater Southwest.

Overview:

Zhaoqing is located in central-western Guangdong, west of the Pearl River Delta (PRD) at the mid to downstream of Xi River. Facing Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao while having the Greater Southwest at its back, Zhaoqing is an intersection between western Guangdong and the PRD and a major transportation hub connecting Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao to Guangxi, Yunnan and others.

Zhaoqing’s six traditional major industries are textile and clothing, food and beverages, furniture, construction materials, metal products and household appliances, and the secondary industry takes up the largest proportion of the industrial structure. The city is striving to nurture industrial clusters that are worth hundreds of billions of yuan in three sectors, which are new energy vehicles, advanced equipment manufacturing.

In the agricultural sector, Zhaoqing’s Huaiji County is a main food production base of Guangdong which emphasizes on agricultural development towards an “Internet + Agriculture” production and business model. Using speciality agricultural by-products as an entry point to agriculture-related e-commerce in order to promote online sales, the county strives to become a modern agriculture demonstration zone and a green and organic agricultural products trading hub in the PRD metropolitan area. Meanwhile, new consumer services and consumption patterns are being actively developed, with a particular focus on sports industry, health and wellness, leisure and travel, and green food, among others.

Being the only city in the GBA that borders the Greater Southwest region by land, Zhaoqing is a key hub for both the westward development of the GBA and the eastward development of the Greater Southwest, and is the confluence where policies of the “three economic belts” – the Pearl River-Xi River Economic Belt, the Guangdong-Guangxi-Guizhou High-Speed Rail Economic Belt, and the Advanced Equipment Manufacturing Belt of the West Bank of Pearl River – overlap each other. Furthermore, Zhaoqing considers attracting industries relocating from Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao a strategic priority, facilitating industry chains in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao to extend to Zhaoqing, and establishing an industrial park for advanced manufacturing enterprises of Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao to actively accommodate the industrial spillover from Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao.
