Focus of Development:

To fully leverage its leading function as a national core city and an integrated gateway city, comprehensively strengthen its functions as an international commerce and industry centre and integrated transport hub, enhance its function as technological, educational and cultural centres, and develop into a global metropolis.

 

Overview:

Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong Province. It is located in central-southern Guangdong and the northern edge of the Pearl River Delta, close to the South China Sea and proximate to Hong Kong and Macao. It is a core city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the Pan-Pearl River Delta Economic Zone, as well as a hub city along the “Belt and Road”.

The Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (the “Outline Plan”) identifies Guangzhou as one of the core engines of regional development and proposes to leverage the leading roles of its strong combination with Foshan. It also proposes to pursue the development of the “Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao” innovation and technology corridor and jointly develop a GBA big data centre as well as platforms for international innovation. Meanwhile, the Outline Plan supports Guangzhou in further improving its modern financial services regimes, developing a regional private equity trading market, establishing a regional centre for equity and commodity trading and augmenting the level of internationalization.

Guangzhou has a well-developed tertiary industry. Knowledge-intensive services sectors represented by modern finance, information services, commercial services and technology services are development leaders; new driving forces that are deeply integrated with internet technology, such as online car booking, distance education, online medical services, electronic commerce and logistics and courier, are also growing fast. Meanwhile, high and new technology industries such as automobile, electronics, petrochemical, electrical and thermal energy, electrical appliances and machineries, general and specialized equipment, rail/ship/aviation/aerospace equipment, and pharmaceuticals are expanding rapidly.

Guangzhou is committed to developing itself into a central node city for the national big circulation and a link city for the domestic and international dual circulation. By 2025, Guangzhou aims to establish a modern transportation network that spans throughout the city, interconnects the whole province, reaches the whole country and connects the world, promote the inter-enabling between digital port and airport, sea port and rail port, complete basically a world’s major transportation hub and international logistics centre with a view to forming a safe, convenient, efficient, green and quality modern integrated transportation system.
